Release Of New Secondary School Arts Curricula

The revised secondary school arts curricula are available on the Ministry of Education website. The English and French documents have been updated to reflect the diverse needs of today's students. The revisions were made after extensive consultation with the education and arts community, as well as student and parent organizations.

Mandatory implementation of these documents begins this September. This completes the review of the elementary and secondary arts curricula. The updated arts curricula for grades 1-8 was released in June 2009.

The arts are an important part of a well-rounded education. By engaging in dance, drama, music, media and visual arts students develop creative and critical thinking skills that support their success in the classroom and later in the workplace.

By updating the arts curricula for grades 9-12, the government is fostering a well-educated workforce that will help drive Ontario's future economic growth.
