Minister of Aboriginal Affairs Brad Duguid today congratulated Stan Beardy on his re-election as Grand Chief of Nishnawbe Aski Nation.

"On behalf of the Ontario government and the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs, I congratulate you on your re-election as Grand Chief of the 49 First Nation communities within Nishnawbe Aski Nation territory.

I commend your dedication and continuous contributions to improving the quality of life for First Nation communities within the territories of James Bay Treaty 9 and Treaty 5.

The decision by Nishnawbe Aski Nation leadership to support your efforts for a fourth consecutive term is an unprecedented accomplishment.

I look forward to continuing our relationship as we work together to address the unique challenges of First Nation communities in northern Ontario."
