Boundary Adjustment For Barrie-Innisfil

The Barrie-Innisfil Boundary Adjustment Act, 2009, was passed by the legislative assembly today.

Upon Royal Assent, the act transfers approximately 2,293 hectares of land on January 1, 2010 to the City of Barrie from the Town of Innisfil. 

The City of Barrie can begin to plan for future development as part of the city's local land use planning process, which would include public consultation. As well, the Town of Innisfil can proceed with planning for its future with greater certainty. Accommodating Barrie's long-term growth needs to 2031 is an important element of the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe and the proposed Simcoe Area Strategic Vision for Growth.

The land transfer is part of the government's integrated approach to improve the quality of life in Simcoe. It would support the provincial Growth Plan, the Provincial Policy Statement and the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan, all of which are designed to support and maintain a high quality of life for the residents of the Simcoe area.
