Province Upholds Conformity To Growth Plan In Durham Region

McGuinty Government Committed To Greater Golden Horseshoe Growth Plan
The Province is proposing changes to Durham Region's official plan to strengthen its focus on the efficient use of infrastructure and services, minimizing urban sprawl and supporting job creation.
The Province is working with Durham Region to make certain its official plan is brought into conformity with the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe area.
The Region submitted its official plan amendments in June 2009 to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The government's proposed modifications to these amendments include:
- Allowing expansion into new urban land once areas within Durham's existing urban boundaries are developed.
- Ensuring the effective implementation of the Central Pickering Development Plan to create a sustainable community in Seaton.
- Encouraging growth in a more balanced manner and maximizing opportunities for more complete, compact growth in its existing urban areas.
