Ontario is continuing its funding of specialized guns and gangs rapid response teams in 17 Ontario communities.
The Provincial Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy (PAVIS) will be supported by an additional $8.9 million over the next two years for specialized rapid response police teams in each community to fight illegal gun and gang activity.
Modeled after the successful Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy (TAVIS), PAVIS aims to reduce illegal gang, drugs and weapons activities in communities by focusing on intervention, prevention, enforcement and community mobilization.
"Violence destroys lives and communities. We're supporting an effective and proactive strategy to crack down on guns and gangs, reduce violence and make Ontario a safer place."
