August 4, 2009 12:02 PM
McGuinty Government Boosting Local Economy, Improving Safety
A new Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment in Kapuskasing will increase public safety and bring new economic development and employment opportunities to the community.
The new building will be located at the corner of Riverside Drive and King Street on lands to be purchased from the municipality. It will replace the existing 45-year-old detachment. The new facility will be built to certified environmental and accessibility standards, be wired for state-of-the-art communications and feature modern holding cells.
This infrastructure project will better support the demands of modern police operations and meet the needs of the community.
It will also benefit the local economy and employ local workers during the construction phase. Construction is expected to begin next year.
This development is part of the McGuinty government's OPP modernization project, which will build new OPP facilities in 16 communities.
