Regional Coroner For North East Ontario Announced

Dr. Andrew McCallum, Chief Coroner for Ontario is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Craig Forrester Muir to the position of Regional Coroner for North East Ontario effective fall 2011.
Working out of Sudbury, Dr. Muir will be responsible for overseeing death investigation services for the areas of Parry Sound, Algoma, Manitoulin, Timiskaming, Cochrane and Sudbury.
Dr. Muir obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1978 from the University of Toronto. In 1982, he obtained his Medical Degree from McMaster University and, in 1988, he completed his Surgical Residency at McMaster. He is on staff at the Greater Niagara General Hospital where he has held the positions of Chief of Surgery, Medical Staff, Vice President, 1998-1999 and Medical Staff, President, 1999-2000. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) in the Department of Surgery at McMaster University (2008-present). He is also a former Chief of Surgery at the Niagara Health System.
Dr. Muir holds professional associations and memberships with the: Ontario Medical Association; Canadian Medical Association; Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Fellow in General Surgery, 1988; Ontario Association of General Surgeons; Canadian Association of General Surgeons; Diplomat American Board of Surgery, 1991 and the American College of Surgeons, Fellow, 1993.
- Dr. Muir has been an investigating coroner since 2004.
