McGuinty Government Investment Supports Local Egg Processor, Creates Jobs

Ontario is helping an eastern Ontario egg processor invest in new technology to remain competitive, attract new customers and create jobs.

Burnbrae Farms Limited will receive $839,835 through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund towards the purchase of new food processing equipment and a new freezer, helping the company to lower production and handling costs at its operations in Brockville and Lyn.  The provincial funding is part of a total investment by the company of more than $5.5 million and will create 20 new jobs over the next three and a half years. 

Partnering with business is a key component of the Ontario government's five-point economic plan to grow the economy.

  • Burnbrae Farms is one of Canada's leading producers and processors of eggs, supplying grocery store chains, the food service industry, large bakeries and industrial customers.
  • With today's announcement the Eastern Ontario Development Fund has now committed over $14 million to 35 announced projects representing a total project investment of $91.1 million and 383 new jobs to be created.
  • In 2008, eastern Ontario's gross domestic product was approximately $66 billion, representing 12 per cent of the provincial total.
