McGuinty Government Helps Community Develop Green Energy Plan

Ontario is helping Brantford position itself as a centre of excellence for renewable energy and sustainable living.

The Brantford Chamber of Commerce is developing a business plan to capitalize on green energy opportunities, including those created through the Green Energy Act, and bring investors to the region.  The Chamber will develop the plan in partnership with Brantford Municipality and the County of Brant, the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council, local power authorities, and local post secondary institutions.

The province is supporting the plan by contributing $24,500 to the Brantford Chamber of Commerce through the Communities in Transition program, which supports economic development projects that will help communities in Ontario attract new investments and retain existing businesses.

  • Six Nations of the Grand River Territory has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samsung C&T Corporation regarding the creation of a working group to conduct further discussions surrounding the development, implementation and operation of future renewable energy projects on Six Nations lands.
  • Since 2007, Ontario has provided $12.7 million in funding for 27 announced Communities in Transition projects.
  • Brantford Municipality, Brant County and Six Nations are located on the principal east/west corridor in Southwestern Ontario with access to major US and Canadian markets.
