McGuinty Government Welcomes Chrysler's Investment
Ontario welcomes Chrysler's latest investment in Etobicoke.
This morning Chrysler Group LLC announced a $27.2 million investment in its Etobicoke casting plant, which produces front and rear crossmembers. Located underneath the motor vehicle, these essential components provide significant structural integrity to the vehicle.
This investment will help retain 280 jobs and keep the Etobicoke plant from shutting its doors.
Ontario's unprecedented support to the auto industry along with its five-year Open Ontario plan is positioning Ontario as one of the leading North American jurisdictions for auto manufacturing.
Quick Facts
- In 2009, Ontario industry produced 1.48 million automobiles which accounted for 10 per cent of Canada's total manufacturing output.
- Ontario's auto sector remains a critical component of Ontario's economy, employing approximately 400,000 jobs throughout the province.
- In June, 2010, Chrysler Canada's sales grew 101 per cent to 9,211 vehicles, marking its seventh consecutive month of more than 20 per cent growth.
- As a result of business tax cuts and the move to a harmonized sales tax, the tax on business investment in Ontario is being cut in half, making Ontario businesses more competitive.
