McGuinty Government Helps Strengthen First Nations Economies

Ontario is supporting the Naicatchewenin First Nation's efforts to promote economic development.

Through the Northern Communities Investment Readiness (NCIR) program, the Naicatchewenin Development Corporation is developing a community profile and compiling an asset inventory. The inventory is expected to include transportation, communications and other infrastructure.

These initiatives will help the First Nation make strategic decisions about supporting new businesses or expanding into new sectors.  This will improve future investments and economic development in the area.

Quick Facts

  • The province is supporting these initiatives with $10,000 from the NCIR program.
  • The Naicatchewenin First Nation is located approximately 60 kilometres northwest of Fort Frances.
  • To date, more than $1.8 million in NCIR funding has been approved for more than 200 initiatives across the North.
