McGuinty Government Helps Community Broadcaster Upgrade Services
A new transmitter and antenna for Manitoulin Radio Communications in Little Current will enable this small community station to significantly enhance local broadcast services and expand its geographic reach.
With support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), the project involves installation of a Nautel transmitter on the radio station's tower at McLean's Mountain. This powerful new equipment will help the radio station increase from 1,830 watts to 27,500 watts. This will allow the station to reach large urban centres like Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and North Bay and Barrie.
The upgrade will help the station broaden its efforts to attract visitors and investors to the area. It will also support educational activities for local students who want to learn about broadcast technology.
