Young Entrepreneurs Launch Businesses On Manitoulin Island

McGuinty Government Supports Economic Development, Northern Communities

Six young entrepreneurs are contributing their skills and services to the growth of Manitoulin Island's business community.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is supporting five new companies owned by these young business people:
  • The Country Inn B & B - a five-room bed and breakfast business owned by Natalie Duck in Sheguiandah that also provides spa, hairdressing and aesthetic services
  • Ryan's Clothing Garage - a clothing store for men and children operated by Andrew McGauley in Mindemoya
  • Joshua Manitowabi of Wikwemikong - a timber cutting and skidding business
  • Joyce Family Farm - a market gardening business started by Catherine Senior and Ross Joyce in Providence Bay that will supply the farmer's market and local stores
  • Renew All - a soda blasting cleaning and paint removal service operated by Brian Elliott in Little Current.

Quick Facts

  • The NOHFC is providing $25,000 to each of these projects under its Young Entrepreneur Program, which helps northern residents aged 18 to 29 start their own for-profit business in the North.
  • Since 2005, the NOHFC has invested nearly $6.6 million in the start-up of some 290 businesses in Northern Ontario.
