McGuinty Government Helps Community Prepare For Future Investment

Greenstone is promoting economic development and job creation by helping local businesses provide services and supplies to Northern mining companies.

Through the support of the Northern Communities Investment Readiness Program (NCIR) the Greenstone Economic Development Corporation the Municipality of Greenstone will conduct a workshop later this month that identifies business opportunities with the mining sector.

Presenters will include representatives of companies active in mineral development in the nearby Greenstone Belt and from the "Ring of Fire" area further north.

Quick Facts

  • The province is providing $10,000 through the NCIR program to support this project.
  • Last year, NCIR support helped attract ActLabs to the Greenstone area which has since set up an operation servicing the mining sector, creating 15 new jobs.
  • To date, more than $1.9 million in NCIR funding has been approved for more than 200 initiatives across the North.
