McGuinty Government Supports Economic Development In Aboriginal Communities
First Nation communities in the James Bay area are focused on boosting tourism to create new jobs and strengthen the local economy.
With assistance from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), The Moose River Heritage Tourism Association (MRHTA) will conduct a two-year study on how to combine, market and expand local tourist services and opportunities.These tourism opportunities in the area include:

- Eco and Aboriginal tours at the Washow wilderness lodge
- Scenic rides on the Polar Bear Express
- Camping at the nearby Tide Water provincial park
Quick Facts
- The NOHFC is providing $126,775 to this project under its Infrastructure and Community Development program.
- MRHTA is made up of three partners: Moose Cree First Nation, MoCreebec Council of the Cree Nation, and the Town of Moosonee.
- The Ontario Northland Transportation Commission recently announced a new passenger vehicle and freight ferry will service the communities of Moosonee and Moose Factory beginning next spring.
