Municipalities in East Algoma are promoting economic development by working to attract investment in using crops to help grow the clean fuel industry and expanding biomass pellet production for clean energy.
With support from the
Northern Communities Investment Readiness (NCIR) program, the Blind River Development Corporation, the Municipality of Huron Shores and the Township of North Shore will:
- prepare a competitive analysis to identify opportunities, including what crops local farmers can produce to create clean fuel;
- outline the area's advantages for fuel crop growth and biomass pellet production; and
- develop a value proposition to market the benefits of locating a pellet production business in the area to potential investors.
This could encourage the development of a local biomass pellet mill and fuel crop growers' cooperative, creating jobs and economic growth in the area. It also builds on community efforts to identify ways to generate clean energy.
This is part of the government's five-year
Open Ontario plan to develop clean energy, create jobs and economic opportunities in Northern Ontario.
