McGuinty Government Investing in Northern Economy, Creating Jobs

Road safety will improve on the Trans Canada  near Atikokan thanks to road work that will create up to 10 construction jobs.

The Caribus Lake culvert on Highway 11 about five kilometres west of the junction with Highway 11B is being replaced. The new culvert will reduce maintenance costs and improve highway road conditions.

Investing in Northern Ontario's roads, highways and bridges is part of the McGuinty government's Growth Plan for Northern Ontario.

  • LH North of Murillo, Ontario was awarded the $1.4-million contract. Work will begin in June, 2012 with completion this fall.
  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane during construction.
  • Since 2003, the Ontario government has improved 2,560 kilometres of highway and 185 bridges and constructed 105 kilometres of new four lane highway along with 115 new bridges throughout Northern Ontario.
