Two Found Guilty For Possession Of 19,200 Unmarked Cigarettes

Two individuals were convicted and fined a total of $3,300 for Tobacco Tax Act offences in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on October 2, 2009.

The charges were laid by the Ministry of Revenue's Special Investigations Branch in separate incidents in the Caledonia area after unmarked cigarettes were found during vehicle searches.

• Jonathan Suter of Hamilton pleaded guilty to possession of 16,800 unmarked cigarettes. He was fined $2,500 and must pay $625 to the Victims' Justice Fund.

• Julie Aristodemo of Etobicoke pleaded guilty to possession of 2,400 unmarked cigarettes and was fined $800. She must also pay $125 to the Victims' Justice Fund.

In both cases, the seized contraband cigarettes were forfeited to the Ontario government
