McGuinty Government Takes Action On Recommendations From Operational Review Report

The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care today notified Cambridge Memorial Hospital of his intent to recommend that a supervisor be appointed for the hospital.

The minister's actions come in response to the findings and recommendations of an Operational Review Report completed by Ms. Vickie Kaminski on June 29, 2009. The report identified a series of long-standing governance, management and financial issues at the hospital that need to be addressed.

Under legislation, the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care must give at least 14 days notice to the board of a hospital of his intent to recommend to the Lieutenant Governor in Council (Cabinet) that a supervisor be appointed. On the minister's recommendation, Cabinet may appoint a supervisor if it considers it is in the public interest to do so.

QUICK FACTS

  • Cambridge Memorial Hospital has 1,300 health care professionals and staff, along with 300 volunteers.
  • The Operational Review Report findings are posted on the Waterloo Wellington LHIN's website.

"Patients will continue to receive quality health care services at Cambridge Memorial, as they always have. I intend to recommend appointing a supervisor in order to address the findings and recommendations raised in the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Operational Review Report and ensure that an implementation plan is put in place."
