Celebrating Innovations in Health Care Expo 2009 is showcasing some of the leading initiatives underway in support of Ontario's health care system. More than 200 exhibitors are promoting creative ideas to address important health care issues. The Expo presents an opportunity to share knowledge and generate the potential for new approaches to improve health care delivery for Ontarians.

The 2009 Innovations in Health Care Awards were presented in recognition of outstanding innovation in six designated categories. This year's winners are:

MEETING COMMUNITY NEED THROUGH INTEGRATED CARE

St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto

My Baby and Me: Infant Passport for Young Pregnant Homeless Women provides pre and post-natal care to women of no fixed address to ensure healthy pregnancies and appropriate supports following birth.

IMPROVING QUALITY AND PATIENT SAFETY

The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO)

Strategies to Support Long-Term Care Staff in the Uptake of Best Practices provides expert nurses to assist long-term care staff in delivering the highest quality of care to older persons living in long-term care homes. 

IMPROVING EFFICIENCY THROUGH PROCESS REDESIGN

St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto

Getting Results through Collaboration in Action is part of a multi-pronged strategy that focuses on simple, patient-focused solutions and a more holistic view of patient care. 

INNOVATIONS IN HEALTH PROMOTION

VON Canada

Caregiver-Connect.ca: An Innovative Approach to Service for Family Caregivers recognizes that illness and disability take a personal toll on family caregivers.  This program provides information to caregivers on services and resources available to help them stay healthy.

INNOVATIONS IN HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto

Innovation in Real-Time Reporting of Utilization and Performance in the Emergency Department ensures that complete, accurate and timely emergency department data is provided in support of patient care and wait times.

INNOVATIONS IN HEALTH HUMAN RESOURCES

Rouge Valley Health System

Neonatal and Paediatric Orientation Program Designed for the New Graduate provides a comprehensive neonatal and paediatric orientation program for new graduate nurses that includes skills lab practice, lectures, videos, self-study and clinical mentorship.
