McGuinty Government Providing Families Better Care Closer To Home, Creating Jobs

Ontario will expand and renovate Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital to give families better access to high-quality care, and create hundreds of local jobs.

Planning is underway for the renovation and construction project that includes:

  • A new 17 floor state-of-the-art Patient Care Tower that will house:
    • new patient care space for cancer treatment
    • intensive and critical care units, and surgical suites
    • diagnostic services, such as CT Scans
    • 110 in-patient care beds;
  • Renovations to the Bond and Queen wings to accommodate outpatient care clinics, an expanded emergency department and nutrition clinic; and
  • Renovations to accommodate a new satellite dialysis unit.

In addition to improving care for families, the project will also spur the local economy, creating up to 850 jobs on site during construction.

Investing in modern and efficient hospitals that support the needs of our aging and diversifying population is part of Building Together, Ontario's long-term infrastructure plan. Ontario will continue to make significant investments in public infrastructure over the next decade to improve the quality of life for families.
