Toronto, Ont. - Cosmacpac Canada Inc., a Toronto cosmetics packager and marketer, was fined $15,000 on January 29 for violating the Employment Standards Act (ESA) by failing to comply with two orders to pay wages. Domenic Reale, the company's director, was fined $10,000.

The Ministry of Labour investigated claims for outstanding wages filed by two former employees. Two orders totalling about $10,000 were issued to the company and were not paid.

The defendants were found guilty of failing to comply with orders issued by an employment standards officer.

The fines were imposed by Justice of the Peace Habte Worku. In addition to the fine, the court imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge on the total, as required by the Provincial Offences Act. The surcharge is credited to a special provincial government fund to assist victims of crime.
