Ontario has opened the call for nominations for the 2010 Premier's Innovation Awards.
The Premier's Innovation Awards are made up of the Premier's Catalyst, Discovery and Summit Awards. The three awards celebrate researchers and innovators who are working on challenges that include conquering disease, finding solutions to climate change and inventing the digital technologies of the future.
Today's call for nominations was made at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new headquarters of Sentinelle Medical Inc. Sentinelle President and Co-Founder Cameron Piron won a 2008 award for Best Young Innovator. Since 2007, Sentinelle has grown from 25 to 110 employees and has just moved into a new 30,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in downtown Toronto to accommodate its dramatic growth.
Investing in research and innovation has been a cornerstone of Ontario's economic planning since 2003. The Ontario Innovation Agenda is a $3.2-billion plan to make Ontario one of the best places in the world to turn world-class research into world-class jobs.

Minister of Research and Innovation
"Receiving the Premier's Innovation Award initiated a series of events that lead to international recognition that we are very grateful for. This program is yet another reason why we find Ontario a tremendously nurturing environment to continue growing our company. Sentinelle Medical has expanded tremendously since receiving the prestigious Catalyst Award. We are proud to be launching a record number of products in 2010 with one ground-breaking project attributed directly to the PIA grant. We hope and anticipate that the next generation of award recipients experience even greater growth and success."
