Statement From Minister Chan On The Niagara Parks Commission's Audit Results

Minister of Tourism and Culture Michael Chan issued the following statement about the Ontario Internal Audit Division's audits of the Niagara Parks Commission's (NPC) travel, meal and hospitality expenses and single source contracts and revenue generating opportunities:

"Today the audits commissioned in December 2010 regarding the Niagara Parks Commission have been released.

The audits show that some of the actions taken by former staff were inappropriate and unacceptable. Even before the audits were commissioned, the government moved to strengthen the rules and we installed a new Board of Commissioners.

I have asked the Interim Chair of the Board to review the audits carefully to determine whether any of the findings warrant further investigation and potential pursuit of the recovery of funds."
