More About The Driver's Licence Exchange Agreement With The Isle Of Man
January 29, 2010 2:21 PM
Starting February 1, 2010, people moving between Ontario and the Isle of Man can exchange their valid driver's licence without having to take a knowledge or road test as long as they meet vision and medical standards and driving experience requirements of Ontario's Graduated Licensing Program.
The Ontario government is committed to making sure our roads stay safe and only qualified drivers are on our roads. Before we agree to a licence exchange agreement with another province or country, we make sure:
- their licensing processes are secure and similar to Ontario's, and
- their licensing standards (e.g. medical standards, minimum driving age, driver testing and training) are as good as Ontario's.
Moving to Ontario from the Isle of Man
Drivers from the Isle of Man can exchange their Category B, C or C1 driver's licence for an Ontario Class G licence.
New Ontarians can exchange an out-of-province driver's licence at one of the DriveTest Centres located throughout the province. Applicants will need to show identification (e.g. passport) and proof of licensed driving experience (e.g. a driver abstract from their home country). They must also meet vision and medical standards, pay any fees that may be prescribed and surrender their out-of-province licence.
Moving to the Isle of Man from Ontario
Drivers can exchange a valid Ontario Class G or Class G2 driver's licence for a Category B, C or C1 driver's licence issued by the Isle of Man by applying at the Licensing Office in the town of Douglas.
All applicants must show identification and proof of licensed driving experience. The applicant may also need to meet vision and medical standards, pay any fees that may be prescribed and surrender their Ontario licence.
