McGuinty Government Helps Town With Its Market-based Strategy

The community of Caledonia is developing market-based, downtown revitalization plans with assistance from the Province.

The community has a number of initiatives that business and community leaders will deliver including new downtown events, branding and a comprehensive economic analysis to facilitate targeted strategies.

Healthy rural downtowns are important to Ontario's economic well-being and the communities they serve.

QUICK FACTS

  • The Caledonia Regional Chamber of Commerce will receive $150,000 for its downtown revitalization project through the Rural Economic Development Program.
  • The community of Caledonia has already begun work in preparation for their downtown project. They have developed plans for new downtown events and initiated a successful, shop-local incentive program called, "The Get It Card." The community has also completed a Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) study to provide market-based information for future decisions.
  • The community will also rely on assistance from economic development staff at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs who live and work in rural Ontario.

"Caledonia's downtown is a focal point for community activity. It is necessary for the delivery of services to the people who live in the town and surrounding area. I congratulate the community leaders who are taking a strategic, long-term look at how to ensure a prosperous downtown that meets the needs of the community."
