McGuinty Government Supports Local Food, Local Economy
Pine River Cheese and Butter Co-operative is entering the healthy snack market.
Ontario is helping Pine River Cheese to:
- purchase new, state-of-the-art equipment to process the trims and ends produced from shaping larger pieces of cheese into smaller blocks
- develop healthy snack and specialty cheese items
- train five employees to operate the new equipment
- create three new highly-skilled full-time positions
- develop new packaging and marketing materials
- process an additional one million litres of milk annually, increasing demand for dairy from local farmers.

- The government is providing $100,000 for this rural economic development initiative.
- Established by a group of farmers in 1885, Pine River Cheese and Butter Co-operative has grown to employ over 40 people. Pine River Cheese manufactures and sells over 2.25 million pounds of cheese annually.
