Canada's veterans were honoured by Ontarians from all walks of life during a ceremony at the Queen's Park Veterans' Memorial.
Premier Dalton McGuinty was joined by Major-General Richard Rohmer (Retired), Brigadier-General John Collin and veterans to observe two minutes of silence. Members of the public, Canadian Forces, cadets and school children also attended the ceremony.
The ceremony included a reading of In Flanders Fields, a youth pledge and a 21-gun salute performed by the 7th Toronto Regiment. Representatives of veterans groups and 15 countries also laid wreaths.
It is the fourth ceremony to take place at Ontario's Veterans' Memorial.
"Our soldiers serve, ultimately, to give others a gift that all Canadians enjoy -- the opportunity to live to our full potential. Today we honour those who have done their duty, by doing ours."
– Dalton McGuinty
Premier of Ontario
"On this 2009 Remembrance Day, I speak on behalf of all veterans when I say that we appreciate the support and recognition given to us for our military efforts by Premier McGuinty and the people of Ontario."
– Major-General Richard Rohmer (Retired)
