The Ontario government is providing $1 million in immediate emergency aid to help the people of Haiti recover from an earthquake that devastated the country on Tuesday.
The money will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross to support the global relief effort.
Ontario also reiterated its offer to the federal government to provide any personnel and equipment required for the relief effort. The province has offered expertise in health care, search and rescue, forensic services and clean drinking water.
"I want to thank all Ontarians who have moved so quickly to offer their assistance to the people of Haiti. Ontario's strength is our diversity, and because of that, we feel a special sense of responsibility. That's why we're moving to help the people of Haiti rebuild their lives and their nation."
