Students at Caradoc Central Public School in Mount Brydges will soon have a better, greener and more energy efficient place to learn.
Premier Dalton McGuinty toured the school to see the progress being made on upgrades that will save the school energy and money. The school is getting new energy efficient windows and doors, boilers, heating and cooling systems and a new one-storey addition.
A crew of about 25 people are working on the project.
The school's addition will include a gym, stage, renovated library and a general arts room. This will help make the school a hub for the community on evenings and weekends. The retrofit is nearly 50 per cent complete.
Ontario is committed to reducing the environmental footprint of publicly funded schools, making them better places for students to learn and succeed. It is part of the government's plan to put Ontario at the forefront of the green economy.
"By retrofitting our schools, we're teaching our kids about the environment while creating jobs and saving on energy costs."
– Dalton McGuinty
Premier of Ontario
"I am pleased to host the Premier to showcase and promote the value of our rural schools and the positive educational experience that can be found in these classrooms. The construction at Caradoc Central Public School is one of many projects our government is committed to in this community, including the brand new water and sewer municipal services which will serve our students and the community."
