McGuinty Government Invests In New Listowel Poultry Processing Plant
The McGuinty government is helping turn a former Campbell's Soup factory into a poultry processing plant in Listowel as part of its Open Ontario Plan.
Erie Meat Products Limited is expected to hire and train 500 workers over the next three years to process chicken and turkey meat for sale around the world.
The Speech from the Throne introduced the Open Ontario Plan. In addition to support for the agri-foods sector, the five-year plan also includes:
- Introducing a new Water Opportunities Act, designed to take advantage of the province's expertise in clean-water technology.
- Increasing the number of students at Ontario's colleges and universities; starting with 20,000 more students this year.
- Creating nearly 600,000 new Ontario jobs with a comprehensive tax reform package.
The Province is investing nearly $3 million in Erie Meat Products Limited. This will allow it to get refrigeration and new production lines up and running at the plant.
