Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty today released the following statement regarding the death of Peel Regional Police Constable Artem "James" Ochakovsky:
"On behalf of all Ontarians, I want to express my sorrow and sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Constable Ochakovsky, who died from injuries sustained in a vehicle collision while on duty March 1. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, his young son and all members of his family.
When a community loses a police officer, it touches everyone.
Constable Ochakovsky served with pride and honour and in his two years with Peel Regional Police, dedicated himself to the safety of others. We are all in his debt.
Tragedies like this remind us that policing is a dangerous job. We are thankful for the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who watch out for us. We also honour the loving support of families who stand behind them.
Together, we grieve for Constable Ochakovsky and express our deep appreciation for all that he did as a police officer to keep Ontarians safe."
