McGuinty Government Recognizes Outstanding Educators

Premier Dalton McGuinty thanked teachers, a principal and support staff for inspiring Ontario's students to succeed and reach their full potential.

The educators received the Premier's Awards for Teaching Excellence for their contributions to student success. Two new categories were added this year -- Philanthropy in Education and the Chair's Award for Community Contribution.

Premier McGuinty presented the awards to educators who excel at supporting and inspiring Ontario's young people. Among those honoured this year is a teacher who developed innovative reading programs to help students with severe learning disabilities, a principal who used the theme of knighthood to create a culture of respect among his students, and a support secretary who directs the school choir and organizes food and clothing drives for the needy.

Seventeen Premier's Awards for Teaching Excellence were handed out this year. One hundred and twenty-six people have received awards since they were created five years ago.
