Ontario kicked off the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards with many events happening across the GTA.
The Province helped bring the three-day festival and business forum to Ontario. It is drawing hundreds of business leaders, thousands of tourists and hundreds of millions of viewers from around the world.
IIFA festivities showcasing South Asian film, culture, food and music, are being held in Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga and Markham. Hundreds of millions of people from around the world will have their eyes on Ontario during the televised awards gala.
More than 300 business leaders and companies from India and Ontario are meeting at a global business forum organized in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The forum will help strengthen ties and investment opportunities, supporting the $1.6 billion in trade between both economies.
Promoting Ontario as an international destination for tourism, culture and business is part of the McGuinty government's plan to strengthen the economy and create new opportunities for jobs and growth.
"We worked hard to land IIFA's North American debut and we're excited it's finally here. This festival will draw more visitors to our communities and showcase Ontario as a great place to live, visit and do business."
– Dalton McGuinty
Premier of Ontario
"IIFA Toronto promises to be the biggest celebration of South Asian culture. We are delighted to showcase the sights, sounds and opportunities that Ontario has to offer. We look forward to a partnership with the people and government of Ontario -- the impact of this relationship will be felt for years to come."
– Sabbas Joseph
