McGuinty Government Sponsors Veteran Appreciation Events

Ontario will sponsor Veteran Appreciation Days in 10 communities this year to honour the sacrifices of veterans.

The kick-off event in Barrie today coincides with the anniversary of the Allies' liberation of Europe during the Second World War in 1945 (VE Day).

Ontario also supports the heritage of veterans through initiatives such as:

  • More than 1.5 million Canadians served in the two world wars and the Korean War.
  • About 80,000 of these veterans live in Ontario.
