Orleans Restaurant Owner Convicted of Tax Evasion

Court Orders $39,249 Fine

The owner of Eastern City, a restaurant in Orleans, has been fined $39,249 for failing to report and remit Retail Sales Tax (RST) collected by the corporation from its customers between April 2003 and September 2006.

Henry Young, aka Chung-Hang Young, of Nepean pleaded guilty to the charge under the Retail Sales Tax Act on May 14 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa. In addition to the fine, he must pay a $9,812 surcharge to the Victims' Justice Fund. The corporation, 1497285 Ontario Limited and Angelis Mok, spouse of Young, also pleaded guilty to Retail Sales Tax Act charges and received suspended sentences.
