Former Owners Of Two Brampton Car Dealerships Fined

Court Orders Fines of $66,000 and $60,000
Sarabjit Kang, former owner of Superior Auto Sales, and Swaranjit Kang, former owner of S&R Motors, both in Brampton, have been convicted of failing to remit retail sales tax.
They pleaded guilty to charges under the Retail Sales Tax Act on January 5, 2010 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Sarabjit Kang was fined $66,000 for failing to remit $88,611 in retail sales tax collected from the dealership's customers between November 2003 and March 2007.
Swaranjit Kang was fined $60,000 for failing to remit $80,688 in retail sales tax collected from customers between January 2004 and March 2007.
They must also pay surcharges of $16,500 and $15,000 to the Victims' Justice Fund.
In addition to court-imposed fines and surcharges, businesses convicted of tax offences must repay any taxes owing plus civil negligence penalties and interest, if any.
Under the Ministry of Revenue's voluntary disclosure program, corporations and individuals may come forward and voluntarily report past violations of provincial tax laws and pay any amounts owing.
