$193,000 Fine For Gatineau Man

Ontario's Tough Tobacco Tax Laws at Work
Peter Sheim from Gatineau, Que. was fined $193,000 for possession of 473,600 unmarked cigarettes.
Sheim was convicted in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor for possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale on January 26, 2010.
The Ministry of Revenue's Special Investigations Branch laid charges following an incident on April 7, 2009 in which the Windsor police stopped a vehicle in Windsor and discovered the unmarked cigarettes. The illegal cigarettes were seized and forfeited to the Ontario government.
In addition to the fine, Sheim must pay a $48,250 surcharge to the Victims' Justice Fund.
