More students are graduating with a college diploma or university degree, thanks to Ontario's unprecedented investments in postsecondary education.
In the last five years, the percentage of students graduating from college has increased from 57 to 65 per cent. The percentage of undergraduate students completing university has also gone up - from 74 to 78 per cent.
To help colleges and universities continue to provide a high-quality education to a growing number of students, the government is investing an additional $150 million in one-time operating funding in postsecondary institutions this year.
This funding is in addition to the $151 million increase in operating funding that Ontario colleges and universities will share this year as part of the Reaching Higher plan.
"We’re making a lot of progress when it comes to helping more Ontarians graduate from college and university – but we know there’s more to do. By continuing to invest in postsecondary education, and by giving students the help they need to succeed, we can meet today’s economic challenges head on and emerge even stronger."
– John Milloy
Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities
"The additional funding announced today by Minister Milloy is a clear signal that he understands the importance of higher education in driving the future growth and prosperity of Ontario, especially during these difficult economic times. We welcome the $7.2 million allocated to Ryerson, which will support accessibility, quality and student success for our undergraduate and graduate students."
