McGuinty Government Introduces New Guidelines To Sustain Successful Training Program
Ontario's Second Career and other training programs are expected to help an additional 8,000 laid-off workers retrain for new careers in high-demand occupations by spring 2010.
Successful applicants to the Second Career program will be identified through a new evaluation system beginning November 20, 2009. It will give priority to applicants based on work experience, education, length of unemployment and other criteria.
Second Career provides financial support for tuition, books, travel and other expenses to help eligible workers participate in training programs.
Launched in June 2008, Second Career exceeded its three-year goal of helping 20,000 laid-off workers after only 16 months. The government has reviewed and changed the program to ensure it can continue to help Ontarians most in need.Quick Facts
- The Fall Economic Statement announced funding of $294.7 million for training and employment programs, including Second Career.
