Media Advisory - Minister Runciman listens to business as he tours Southwestern Ontario

TORONTO, Aug. 20 /CNW/ - Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Bob Runciman, continues with day two of his three-day tour of Southwestern Ontario tomorrow. The Minister will make a cheque presentation in Wallaceburg, tour a bridge in Sarnia and congratulate young entrepreneurs in London.

DATE: Tuesday August 21, 2001

8:30 a.m. - Minister Runciman presents a cheque to the St. Clair College -
James Burgess Metal Trades Training Centre in Wallaceburg. The funding is
part of the ministry's Strategic Skills Investment Program. Industry and
education partners contributed an amount of $3.1 million to the project.

11:30 a.m. - Minister Runciman will tour the Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia.
He will be joined by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Tim
Hudak. The Bluewater Bridge joins Point Edward/Sarnia, Ontario to Port
Huron, Michigan. It is an essential economic link between Ontario and
Michigan with approximately six thousand commercial vehicles crossing the
bridge daily.

LOCATION: On the Plaza, in front of the Bluewater Bridge Authority
Administration Building, Canadian side of the bridge.

4:30 p.m. - Minister Runciman congratulates successful young
entrepreneurs in London. The students have been awarded for creating
their own summer businesses as part of the ministry's Summer Company
program. This year, close to 350 applications have been received and
almost 200 students have received a cash award for their summer job
initiative.

Minister Runciman is on this swing through Southwestern Ontario to connect with business audiences and hear how they are doing. Minister Runciman wants to gain a greater understanding of the economic issues facing Southwestern Ontario as a result of this tour. He will also share his vision of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade's initiatives and goals.
