Media Advisory - Installation of new Lieutenant Governor
TORONTO, March 6 /CNW/ - The Chief Justice of Ontario, the Honourable Roy McMurtry, will on Thursday, March 7, 2002 administer the Oaths of Allegiance and Office to Lieutenant Governor-designate James K. Bartleman on the occasion of his installation as Ontario's 27th Lieutenant Governor. Mr. Bartleman replaces the outgoing Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Hilary M. Weston.
Dignitaries will include Mike Harris, Ontario's Premier; former Lieutenant Governors and Premiers; members of the Cabinet and members of provincial parliament; as well as representatives of the federal government and the Governor General of Canada.
Students from the Mnjikaning Kendaaswin Elementary School Choir will perform before and after the ceremony. The installation ceremony will take place inside the Legislative Chamber, followed by military honours outdoors. There will be a 15-gun salute during the Lieutenant Governor's inspection of the Guard of Honour.
The general public will have an opportunity to view the military honours, which will take place in front of the Legislative Building's main entrance at approximately 11:20 a.m.
