Ontario welcomes announcement of hundreds of jobs at new call centre in Peterborough
PETERBOROUGH, ON, June 21 /CNW/ - Ontario Minister of Enterprise, Opportunity and Innovation Jim Flaherty today welcomed the announcement by ICT Group Inc. and the Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corp. of 500 jobs at a new call centre in downtown Peterborough.
"Our efforts to create an attractive business climate by cutting taxes and reducing red tape continue to pay off as more companies choose Ontario as an ideal place to locate and do business," Flaherty said. "This call centre is another success story of the ministry's investment initiatives, which consistently points out to businesses around the globe the numerous benefits of investing in Ontario."
Gary Stewart, the MPP for Peterborough, said the call centre is yet another boost of confidence to the city and its residents.
"Peterborough is well suited for this ICT Group call centre. To be the chosen site by a successful multinational American company says a lot about what the city has to offer and the high-quality workforce available in Peterborough and surrounding area." Stewart said.
Susan Cudahy of the Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation said the call centre and the hundreds of direct and indirect jobs it will create will enhance the ongoing development of downtown in Peterborough.
"The impact of this investment will be enormous. There will be greater economic activity and development downtown as more people come to the area to work or shop," Cudahy said.
ICT Group, headquartered in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, is a leading provider of Customer Relations Management (CMR) solutions with more than 40 customer call centres in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia. ICT Group opened a call centre in Lindsay, Ontario earlier this year.
