Inquest in the death of Eugene Hickey announced

GUELPH, ON, Oct. 24 - Dr. Karen J. Acheson, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central West Ontario, today announced that an inquest will be held in the death of Eugene Hickey. Mr. Hickey died on October 8, 2002, following a head injury he sustained while at the Maplehurst Detention Centre. Although Mr. Hickey was not considered to be in custody, a discretionary inquest has been called in order to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. The inquest is expected to last approximately five to eight days and hear from approximately 16 witnesses. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 28th, 2003, at the Ramada Inn, 161 Chisholm Drive, Milton, Ontario. Dr. James F. Kovacs will preside as inquest coroner.
