Statement from Premier Dalton McGuinty on Hamilton's 2010 Commonwealth Games bid

Office of the Premier

TORONTO, Nov. 13 - On behalf of the people of Ontario, I want to congratulate the people of Hamilton on their tremendous bid to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The city, and the bid committee that worked so tirelessly on its behalf, have much to be proud of. Despite the disappointment many of us are feeling this evening, know you have represented your province and Canada well. What has been best about the bid is what is best about our province: you were proud of our past, ambitious for our future, and absolutely committed to providing opportunities for our young people. Hamilton would have been a wonderful host. Ontario would have been a wonderful host. I know how much Hamilton wanted to "bring it home." But you have brought your home respect, admiration and affection on the world stage. I hope you will be as proud of your efforts as we are of you. www.premier.gov.on.caFor further information: Premier's Media Office, (416) 314-8975
