Inquest in the death of Paramjeet Singh Padda announced

GUELPH, ON, Nov. 19 - Dr. Karen J. Acheson, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central West Ontario, today announced that an inquest will be held in the death of Paramjeet Singh Padda. Mr. Padda, 39, died at Halton Health Care Services, Milton Site, on November 28, 2001, while under the custody of Maplehurst Correctional Complex. Under the Coroners Act an inquest is mandatory when a person dies while in custody. The inquest will review the events surrounding Mr. Padda's death and may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths. The inquest is expected to last four weeks and will hear from approximately 49 witnesses. The inquest will begin on Monday, January 12, 2004, at 9:30 a.m. at the Ramada Inn, 161 Chisholm Drive, in Milton. Dr. K. J. Acheson will preside as inquest coroner.
