Inquest into death of Kimberly McLean announced

ST. CATHARINES, ON, Jan. 14 - Dr. Christopher K. Rathwell, Regional Coroner for Niagara, announced today that an inquest will be held into the death of Kimberly McLean. Ms. McLean, 29, died at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre on September 11, 2000. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest is mandatory when a person dies while in custody. The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding the death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths. The inquest is expected to last three days. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2004, at the Sopinka Court House, 45 Main Street East, Hamilton. Dr. Darryl Wolski will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Katherine Livingston, Crown Attorney, will be counsel to the coroner.
