Inquest date announced into the death of youth in custody

GUELPH, ON, March 1 - Dr. Karen J. Acheson, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central West Ontario, today announced that a date has been set for the inquest into the death of a youth who died while in custody. The youth died on April 27, 2003 while in the care of Cassata, an open custody facility. The inquest will review the events surrounding the youth's death and the inquest jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future similar deaths. The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from approximately six witnesses. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 5th, 2004 at the Superior Court, (Court Room No. 2), 20 Weber Street, Kitchener, Ontario. Dr. Karen J. Acheson will preside as inquest coroner.
