Inquest in the death of David Hoey announced

GUELPH, ON, March 1 - Dr. Karen J. Acheson, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central West Ontario, today announced that an inquest will be held in the death of David Hoey. Mr. Hoey, 48, died while in police custody following a single vehicle collision. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest is mandatory when a person dies while in custody. The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding the death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths. The inquest is expected to last 10 days, and hear from approximately twelve witnesses. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 7th, 2004, at the Simcoe County Offices, 1110 Hwy 26, in Midhurst. Dr. John Ewen will preside as inquest coroner.
