McGuinty government releases survey on state of municipal water treatment systems

Ministry of Infrastructure

QUEEN'S PARK, March 24 - The McGuinty government released today the last in a series of technical reports on Ontario's municipal water and wastewater systems. The report is entitled Analysis of Asset Management, Accounting, Financing and Pricing Practices for Municipal Water and Wastewater Systems in Ontario. The report was commissioned in 2001 by the former Ontario SuperBuild Corporation. "The report provides the government and municipalities with useful and timely survey data on the current state of municipal water and wastewater systems," Public Infrastructure Renewal Minister David Caplan said. "We look forward to sharing the information with municipalities and stakeholders and studying the recommendations and conclusions." In combination with its sister reports, this last report will complement the government's understanding of Ontario's water and wastewater systems. The report compiles responses of municipalities to an extensive survey on drinking water and wastewater systems, water pricing and the state of municipal government investments to upgrade and renew their drinking water and wastewater systems.
